The Search Party
In 2004, Google went public, selling its stock at an opening price of eighty-five dollars per share. Page and Brin, each of whom owned about fifteen per cent of the company, became billionaires; so did Schmidt, who owned about six per cent. Google's stock has at times climbed over seven hundred dollars a share, and a great many Google employees have become fabulously wealthy. In 2005, Google, outbidding Microsoft, paid a billion dollars for a five-per-cent stake in AOL and a five-year contract to deliver all AOL searches and search-based advertising. But it was the intended purchase of DoubleClick, a company that specializes in display and banner ads and video advertising, that unnerved many in the advertising industry. Microsoft, joined by A.T.&T., claimed that the combination of DoubleClick and Google would be “anti-competitive," and pressed the Federal Trade Commission to block the merger.

Digital River's Jim Wehmann: Building a Better E-Commerce Site
"The measure of a site is how long are consumers staying there, and are they buying and doing the things that we want them to do?" said Digital River's Jim Wehmann. Channel chokers
Strengthening the workforce, beefing up marketing activities and setting aside incentives for the channel usually occupy a pretty high place on the list of categories that take precedent. But it would be interesting to know how many brands are allocating funds for the sole purpose of ensuring business partners in each individual market receive suitable training. Vendors might laud the Middle East as a region that warrants their undivided attention, but if there is one area where a high proportion fall persistently short then it's getting resources into markets outside of the UAE. When I say resources, I'm not calling for manufacturers to establish scaled-down offices in each country, but to take the bull by the horns and engage with partners on a personal level. The only way that resellers can truly develop their breadth of skills and technological understanding is if a vendor has solid policies and procedures in place for transferring knowledge.
