ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany in March slackened ...
The dynamism of the recovery process traced by the ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany slackened off somewhat in March 2007. The indicator rose by 2.9 points and now stands at 5.8 points after 2.9 points in February. This is still far below its historical average of 33.2 points. The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany suggests that the German economy is continuing to recover. Domestic incoming orders developed favourably despite the increase in value-added tax. The Institute for the World Economy in Kiel, Germany on Monday revised its forecast for the German Economy to 2.8% growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) - faster than the 2.7% achieved in 2006, which was the fastest rate since 2000. Consumer confidence has also stabilized thanks to good news from the German labour market.
THE EDUCATION OF YVETTE CLARKE PART 25: US SENATOR GRASSLEY ...
Hardbeatnews, BROOKLYN, NY, Fri. Mar. 23, 2007: Just as the Caribbean Basin countries and islands are quietly poised to become significant players in the ever expanding biofuels industry, one powerful U.S. Senator from Iowa Charles Grassley is determined to use his muscle to insure that does not happen. Coming from a farm state, his enthusiasm for using government power to subsidize agribusiness knows no bounds. Even now, when farm values are soaring more than ever and the cost of corn is reaching records and demand cannot adequately be met because farm crops are no longer just food they are also fuel. Non-petroleum based fuel. Still Washington Big Wigs greed is insatiable. It turns out because of a minor provision tucked into the Caribbean Basin Initiative in 1983, passed during the Reagan years by Congress to offer some economic tools to Caribbean nations to assist their development, the Caribbean is exempt from a 54 cent a gallon tariff on imported ethanol.
State of Minnesota IP Telephony Implementation Grows Exponentially
In an effort to save money and provide more features, the state of Minnesota has increased the number of installed Internet Protocol (IP) phones by nearly 100 percent since July 2006. IP telephony (IPT) is a phone system that uses voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) data connections to exchange voice data that have traditionally been carried over the public switched telephone network. The Office of Enterprise Technology (OET) has been working in partnership with state agencies and other government entities since 2004 to implement IP-based voice services (IPT) that carry calls over the state network, MNET. At the end of June 2006, OET had an installed base of 4,000 IPT phones. By the end of February 2007, nearly 8,000 IPT phones were installed and in operation in a variety of government organizations, and more than 4,000 are in process.
Balkan enlargement is EU birthday test
Fifty years ago European visionaries signed the Treaty of Rome setting the foundations for a modern day Europe. Today Europe has 27 members, almost 560 million citizens and it is the biggest market in the world. The economic indicators are convincing. EU average unemployment is down to 7 percent and its cumulative economic growth is at 3 percent. But in order to compete on the global market, Europe may have to further intensify economic reforms, liberalize its markets and complete the enlargement process. Without integrating the Western Balkans, Europe will struggle to manage its out-of area expansion and its global commitments as problems from the region will keep its focus on local issues. Macedonia is managing its transition well. We are shifting into high gear in order to be ready for EU membership by 2010.
Dollar Steady Following Drop In Consumer Confidence
Following up on yesterday's disappointing data, Tuesday's economic calendar delivered another wave of bearish numbers for the dollar. Offering a relatively market-moving mix, indicators of consumer confidence, manufacturing activity in the Richmond area and housing prices all hit the wires below their official consensuses. Despite the fundamental implications of today's economic data though, there price action against the dollar was constrained for much of the morning. Reserving its choppy behavior, EURUSD rose off of its range low at 1.3320 only to find resistance later around 1.3365. At the same time, USDCHF carved resistance out around below 1.2170 before hitting an intraday double touch low around 1.2120. Still drifting after last week's run, GBPUSD accelerated declines from the Asian session to a 1.9620 low before gradually, rising 60 points through the morning hours in New York.
